OD Sony HXR NX5U cam and AVCHD questions

We bought a Sony HXR NX5U awhile back for a project and then the project got put on long term hold.

The cam was relatively new then and we did not do a lot of research. We liked the zoom and the ~11 hours of storage that the flash memory provided.

Now we are pulling the camera out of the drawer as the project is cranking up again and we have some questions...

1 - What are the main issues we should be aware of with the Sony HXR NX5U camera?

We will be using the camera...
a. in the field on location
b. as well as in the studio shooting talent in front of a chroma key screen.

2 - What are the issues we should be aware of with reference to the AVCHD format the camera records in? And the fact that it records with 8-bit quantization.

3 - If we were to upgrade what do you guys suggest?

At the time zoom and recording time seemed to make this a good choice for using on location and in the studio and to replace our old Sony PD 100.

Thanks for any help.

Assuming you have decent specs on your editing box and are using a recent version of Vegas, AVCHD from this camera works very good in Vegas.

Thanks for the input.

It was a nice upgrade from our Sony PD 150 at the time. But right after we got it the project got put on the low burner and only now are we about to really start using it.
