Odd audio behavior in 8.0c

I'm recording 8kHz, 16 bit, mono .wav files for a phone system. I record a few takes, delete what I don't want, then render out the final take to a pre-selected folder. Then I delete the old take from the time line and start the process again. All of a sudden when I press to arm for record I either get a loud digitized bunch of garble or Vegas crashes entirely. I'm almost finished but it has been a pain in the bum to say the least. I'd like to head this off in the future. As far as I can tell, my audio drivers are current (M-Audio Delta 1010LT). As always, my first assumption is operator error but I've used a similar work flow before with no problems that I recall. This would probably be more efficient with a batch render but I get set in my ways (good and bad).

Anyone else had similar issues? Sorry if this is a known bug.

BTW I'm still in Windows XP.

Thanks

UPDATE

Turning off arm-for-record before rendering each take seems to correct the problem. Not sure if that's operator error, a bug or a combination of the two. In the end, the recordings are done and I'm happy.
