Odd Trimmer Behavior in Vegas 18 Pro

Hello!

So, please pardon me if this is a silly question, but coming from Adobe Premiere (and not wanting to continue paying egregious licensing fees) I got a license for Vegas Pro 18 (b527) through HumbleBundle a while back, and I'm just getting to really play around with it.

I'm seeing some odd behavior when trying to set in/out points on the trimmer. I'll load a clip in (it's weird it doesn't do that by default, btw...) I play and press "I" to set my in point, but when I hit "O" for my out point while the video is playing, the Out point lands a frame later than the in point, not where the video play head was.

As an example, if I hit play and set my in TC as 00:01:23:23, and I want my out TC to be at 00:02:01:00, it instead drops the out TC at 00:01:24:00 (for 24fps video). If there are previously set in/outs it seems like it works fine, but if there are no in/outs...

Am I doing something wrong, here? Or is VEGAS just so wildly different from the way Premiere/AVID/Resolve work that I'm just not getting it?

I don't think that's weird. That's the way I like it! I never use the trimmer and always just drop clips directly to the timeline. Having said that, have you set this parameter so that it will open in the trimmer automatically instead of adding it to the timeline?

I play and press "I" to set my in point, but when I hit "O" for my out point while the video is playing, the Out point lands a frame later than the in point, not where the video play head was.

I can confirm that is what happens so you'll need to stop the playback before pressing O. However, the second time I tried to duplicate this, it worked perfectly fine. So maybe you just need to stop, press O, and then start playback again and pressing O seems to work fine then.

@Jason-Belack Hj, I tried this in VP21 earlier & it worked fine, the in & out were placed in the correct positions.. but I just tried it in VP18 & got the same result as you where the in & out were placed in the same position, so i just tried 21 again & that put the in & out were in the same position 😒, I'm no sure if i did as you say 'If there are previously set in/outs it seems like it works fine' when i tried it 21 earlier because when i tried it a second time with the same clip in 21 & 18 it worked correctly..

I don't work like that tho, I drag the selection on the trimmer window & then refine it by dragging the markers on the trimmer timeline

If you have selected the whole scene, as it appears you have done (selection is all blue) then this behavior happens. If you have already selected other than the whole scene, then there is a different behavior.

So, open in trimmer, press I and O, and then start playing and I & O should then work fine...
