Would like to display a counter of the number of times an event happens on a video.

I could use a paint program, create 50 graphic files for the numbers 1 to 50, sequentially place these on the video overlay track, and adjust the pan/crop of each one so it shows only in the corner.

there should be a better way, an FX plug in that produces consistent looking numbers?

Would be nice if it also offered odometer style, the digits turning visibly, and an optional sound event on the transition, a click or a beep or a soft chime.
