I never watched the reality boxing show The Contender before, but I just flipped to and after about 30 seconds, I was wondering what's wrong with this picture.
It was unlike any boxing match I had ever seen. The look was different. There was music continually playing and the crowd was more amped than usual, but I figured they stocked the room with friends and family. They I realized that all the punches had sound effects on them. Every one of them was Foleyed. A glancing shot off the other guys gloves would sound the same as a power shot to the midsection. Once you realize this it makes the show particularly ridiculous. After all, isn't a boxing match already supposed to be the height of reality-based drama?
