Offline HD reconform to 4k

zalan wrote on 5/5/2016, 5:08 AM
Hi there. I have a problem. I shot a film in 4k with HD duplicate files. When I came to edit I used my HD files because thought I could just go back to my 4K when I finally do a master. Also didn't think I would master in 4k. However as I did quite a lot of sfx and reframing and zooming in (using my HD files) I realized I would have to go back to my 4k files so even if I ended up on a 2k render out I would have no loss of image quality having used my 4k files. So problem now is how do I make my project relink the media to the orginal duplicate 4k fle. Can't remember the terminology - conform something?... In retrospect I should have done my edit in 4k and used proxy files so wouldn't have the problem now. Should I put just my 4k files in a seperate folder?
Was going to copy my 4k originals to another folder but should I be copying other vegas important files with it like sfk?

Hope someone can help

Thanks. Alank

Proxy editing is exactly what you are doing, except you've got the concept backwards.
Directions are in your Help, in this Forum, in the Knowledgebase, and online.

If you haven't used Vegas to build the proxies, you will need Vegasaur to relink, which is called replace media in Vagsaur to the 4K files. It's always good to have the 4K files Ina delegate directory but you can't if you use Vegas own 4K proxy workflow. Vegasaur is more flexible and can be used Ina reversed workflow like yours.

Hi there

I've looked in the help and online but it is still not clear how I get to change my media to 4k. Says how you set up a proxy edit but I didn't. I used the duplicate HD files not a proxy edit of the 4k. So far haven't been able to work it out hence going on this forum.

Somebody just tell me next step. Because not clear on the help. Menu? Select all media? Conform to original 4K?. These would be some of the options I would expect to go through.

Is Vegasaur a plug in? Or aleady in the program?
zalan wrote on 5/5/2016, 7:49 AM
As musicvid10 mentioned in my first reply I've kind of done a proxy edit but not using 4k files. All done in Vegas so would I still need Vegasour? Can't I still do this in Vegas? And how?

Just go in Project Media tab, then select the video file you want to be made for proxy, then right click on it, > Create Video Proxy. Vegas will make the preview-friendly version and using it on throughout editing session, but during rendering, Vegas will use the original source.

Vegasaur is a script collection, and available as an add-on.

With this add-on, you can do more control with the proxy, although I personally haven't tried them.

Vegas had to first build it's own proxies files only the can you use the Vegas build in 4K proxy workflow, it can't do it in reverse. Vegasaur however can. It also has a lot more other very very useful tools and functions that Inuse daily.

Wonderful.

Oh, ok... just re-Read your original post again... so, during shooting, you are already make separate 4K video and HD video manually, but then you are using HD version on editing..., but now you need a 'batch-swapper' for whole shots.

Not sure with Vegasaur since I'm not using it, you can try using 'Media Swapper' function on Ultimate S Pro 4.1 script, from VASST
(@JohnnyRoy, do you still selling the Ultimate S Pro ? Also not sure if you have 'Media Swapper' function on RenderAssistant FASST-Apps ? Can't find the Ultimate S Pro 4.1.9 information page on your VASST site!).

If you don't have too many clips that works too.

Yep, that's the simplest thing you can do, although you have to do it one-by-one...

Sorry not to have mentioned it earlier.
"Replace project media" is the way I've always done it in Vegas Pro 8.
