-- OGG/OGV to AVI Conversion Frustration

Soniclight wrote on 7/26/2009, 9:34 AM
I would like to use a few clips from the Wiki Commons site which presents such files in either OGG or OGV format (Linux OS platform). Vegas 8, Virtual Dub, Super, etc. can't import these so no-go. VLC plays OGV but hits error on convert.

I sure wish I could just plop these babies into VP8 because one can export in OGG. Maybe it's just a system codec issue -- and/or Wiki files issue? Since I work mainly in AVI, that output format would be preferred but I am open to any decent format that VP8 would recognize.

If I can't fix this locally on my computer with Vegas, etc., I don't wish to buy a whole program just to convert such files. There's got to be a simple freeware solution.

I've spent more than an hour scouring the Net reading forums and trying out various freeware suggestions but nuttin' works. Burned out.

Help appreciated.

Well, I partially solved the codec issue as far as playing the files on WMP and such. Vegas still doesn't accept OGG or OGV.

i think super does conversion - personally i don't like the interface, and i had some problems with flv's, but i do use it with my students quite a bit.....

Before I installed the above, Super would show errors on convert. After, the play and output looks pale (as if to high in gamma or such). So still no solution.

Have you looked at the output with Vegas's waveform monitor?

It might be quite easy to fix once you know what's happening or tell us what the waveform monitor tells you.
