Oh Dear

Attempted to open a second instance of Vegas 6.0b,----and went for lunch. Returned an hour later and it still hadn't loaded.
Rebooted and no problem loading second instance, though it was a lot more sluggish than in 5.0d.
So pasted some tracks into second instance of Vegas and there it is,----the old hour glass,---and the sands of life run out as I wonder if the emperor is showing a little ankle.
Twenty minutes now,---and still nothing.
I'm trying to say this in a controlled fashion.
Is this the NLE I should be using to make a living, to meet deadlines?
I'm trying to say that in a non-retorical way,---cause I still have a warm spot for Vegas.
This is my first public complaint.
What's up?

I work with more than one instance of Vegas all the time and there's no problem. And my project is an 88 minute movie with tons of editing, audio tracks and filters/fx.

Could it be that you don't have Vegas set to close media files when it's not the active application, or something like that?

No problems with multiple instances here

I have media manager disabled, because it is external bloatware that was bolted onto Vegas. Do you have media manger enabled? If you do, there is a preference to turn it off in the Options menu. Disable it, quit Vegas, and then open two instances and see if you have the same problems.

Also if this is the first time you are using Media Manager, it is cataloging all your files on all your drives. I wonder if MM was trying to create a new catalog. Also I wonder how various levels of RAM affect Media Manager's performance.

I have consistent hanging on my system with Vegas 6.0b and it has something to do with loading AVCDevices.dll. When I remove (rename) that DLL everything works great for me.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem you are having, but it may be something to try.

I suspect there are some race conditions or deadlocks that still need to be debugged by Sony.

Secret is to disable MM.
Don't use it anyway.
Thanks guys.
I really do like Vegas,---may even learn how to use MM sometime.
I just need a reliable NLE to cut stuff with right now.

To Randygo: What does AVCDevices.dll control? Would it disable an A/V input device (until the dll is restored)? Does it affect a firewire drive (which is where my source footage is)?
