Oh, my--200GB for $120

Last October, you could buy the brand-new Western Digital WD2000 (200GB, 7200rpm, 8MB buffer) drive for $400. Now at Fry's it's $120 (after a $120 rebate)!

I bought one a few days ago because I'm about to start a project involving a lot of 3-camera shoots, and I have many hours of tape I want to have online. My little PC box now holds 600GB. My previous Compaq system 4 years ago held 4GB.

What an amazing industry.

Give me the instant savings. Rebates take too long. I'm still waiting for rebates from last winter to come. But don't listen to me, I just like complaining. HE HE.

Any problems with the over 137 GB Windows restriction? I had to download a service pack update in order to be able to use the 160 GB drive I just picked up.

No problems here. I picked up a 200 GB WD some time back and it was one of the newer 133 Ultra IDE drives. It came with its own IDE card so it could run faster. As far as the 137 GB barrier, I think you do have to have Service Pack One installed. I already did, so don't know.

Even if your system chokes on anything over 137GB, you can always create two partitions of 100GB each.

I bought two of these 200GB Western Digitals at Fry's. I received my rebates ($140 each!) within 30 days, no problems. Net was $109 per drive (not including tax on the full, pre-rebate amount). I have over 1/2 a terrabyte in my home PC! Woohoo!
