I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this item, but I am really starting to lose it. I'm new at the video capture realm, and am having issues with my Camcorder being detected by my PC. I have a Sony DCR-HC40 MiniDV camcorder and recently installed a VIA OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller card. The hardware manager shows me that my drivers are properly installed and the IEEE 1394 card is properly working. However; when I try to capture using Vegas Movie Studio8.0 it tells me "No Device Connected". The Video dropdown also says "No video device".
In the attempt to make sure it's not my camcorder, I took it to a friend who captures video and the camcorder was properly recognized on that PC.
What is up with my PC? Is it the IEEE 1394 card? As I'm trying to troubleshoot, I see the Movie Studio documentation references a IEEE 1394 DV card - what is that? Something different than a normal 1394 card? Also not sure if I bought a card that doesn't support Sony iLINK properly - is there a difference?
*sigh*
