My old burner died and I bought a Yamaha 2100S SCSI. It wouldn't work in CD Architect. When I would try to burn a CD it would instantly reboot my PC. I installed the latest version of CDA and from the error message I got it seems it won't run under SF 4.0. It only runs under 4.5. Fortunately I have had a version of XP 4.5 that came with a software bundle I got and I never installed it because I had the full 4.0. Anyway, I have uninstalled 4.0, installed 4.5 XP, installed the 4.5h update. Then I install CDA and the 4.0g update. Now it won't even run 4.5 XP at all!!! I get a message saying something about an older version and not being installed properly. I've been dicking around with this for over 3 hours now and all I want to do is burn a freakin CD!!!!!!!

I run a semi-pro studio and I NEED CD Architect to work properly. I've got clients coming next week to start mixing and I have to be able to give them CDs to listen to. I shelled out a LOT of money for this program. I didn't pirate it. Could somebody please tell me what I have to do to get it to work? Thanks.

If your PC is shuting down because of software you have other issues ............

1. uninstall the SF-4.5- - - - - - - - - shared file no longer in use get ride of them.
**USE THE CONTROL PANEL** - - - - Clean Uninstall.
2. reinstall the SF-4.0 - - - - - - - - - because it's still there
3. uninstall the SF-4.0 - - - - - - - - - shared file no longer in use get ride of them.
**USE THE CONTROL PANEL** - - - - Clean Uninstall.
4. reinstall the SF-4.5 - - - - - - - - - At this point try to burn a CD,
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - if successful then your OK.
And now the updates. Good luck........

I hate to say it, but you're in for a reformat or something similar.

It's an issue with incorrect registry settings. When sonic foundry used to have phone support easily available, I spent 30 minutes with them going over how to "really" remove sound forge 4.0 or 4.5 at the time. THEN I could install 4.5 properly. All worked. I've never seen all the registry settings they had me change and or remove printed anywhere.

Do you have norton ghost or something similar? If so, take an image of your C drive. Then install windows again, and try to install sound forge 4.5 xp or whatever you wish to use. If it fails, you can always restore from your image.

What a shame. I've been in your situation and it's not fun. I now have a backup machine to throw into service incase the worst ever happens again.
