OK, now I'm REALLY confused

I've downloaded "Vegas Video" to evalualte. It
has Vegas 2.0 Beta written all over the place, not "Vegas
Video 1.0 Beta" as you'd expect with a new product.
Is "Vegas Video" really "Vegas Pro 2.0 Beta"? As
an audio only user do I use "Vegas Video"... uhhhh "Vegas
2.0 Beta" as my audio editor to get new features that
aren't in "Vegas Pro 1.0b"? Is there a "Vegas Pro 2.0 Beta"
for audio coming soon or is this it? I'm really
confused now. If I use Vegas Video now will some Vegas
Audio Beta 2.0 come out that will make my projects not
work?
I bought Vegas Pro, what's my upgrade path?
Do I have to wait until Summer for "Vegas Pro 2.0 Beta"
or is this it? Or not? Or is it?
Did people as S.F. get woozy trying to get stuff ready for
N.A.B? Someone at S.F. PLEASE tell me what the heck is
going on. Because, I'm sure marketing has it all planned
out, like product line and features and names and stuff.
Right?

I'll third that, I cant say enough about vegas Pro, but It seems
every time I ask a S/F representative about a vegas 2.0 I feel left
in the dark, Makes me question my loyalty,,If they wont be
informative and supportive to a purchaser and local promoter of their
products I start to question, myself. They're good, but not good to
the point of Blissfull arrogance. Maybe they're trying to figure out
a marketing scheme so we have to buy a new product.

Hello All,

I apologize for the confusion surrounding Vegas 2.0. I hope i can
clarify - Vegas 2.0 will be two products, Vegas Audio and Vegas
Video. Vegas Audio will be the 2.0 version of Vegas Pro. There will
be upgrade paths from Vegas Pro to both Vegas Audio and Vegas Video.

Some of the new features in Vegas Audio 2.0 include:

metronome
destructive directx plug-ins on events
locking envelopes to events
XFX 1, 2, 3 included
real time time compression/expansion on events
improved real time pitch shift
envelope cut/copy/paste
many new editing shortcuts
etc...

We have no intentions of dropping our audio support - we are simply
expanding into other areas of media editing.

I hope this has answered most of your questions. please let me know
if there is anything else you'd like to know.

Best Regards,
Caleb

I paid over $600.00 dollars for your Vegas 1.0b.

So - your Vegas audio 2.0 WILL BE A FREE DOWNLOADABLE UPGRADE FOR ME
RIGHT?......RIGHT?

I don't even want to SEE THE WORDS "UPGRADE PATH" concerning Vegas
after paying $600.00 for a BETA product. This app (1.0b) is still
about as Beta3 as you can get.

So it will be a free upgrade right? If not - I want all my $$ back,
you take back this damn Vegas 1.0 and I'll go with another app...one
that comes with a damn 24-bit editor as well.

Send me the rma #, you get this "thing" back and I get my $600.00
back. If not, SF sales will hear from the family lawyer (she hasn't
lost one yet).

THIS IS FRICKIN' OUTRAGEOUS SF....THE WORST STUNT YOU'VE EVER PULLED.

Let me guess.... new management? The old SF I used to know wouldn't
have pulled this crap.
I've sunk enough $ into your products to choke a yak....and now "I'm"
the jerk for raising issue with this robbery?
bull!

I'm reading all these posts from others stating "Oh....thank you for
clarifying this", etc...."when can we expect this gem?....here take
my wallet"

Bull!! At least I have the brass ones to call you on this game. Am
I the only one who is a bit offended here? I don't believe it.

So tell me....it will be a free upgrade...RIGHT?????

Answers?

Hi Joe,

Actually, no, Vegas 2.0 is an upgrade to Vegas 1.0 and, therefore,
will have a cost associated with it.

Since you are not happy with Vegas 1.0, nor does it sound like you
will be happy with Vegas 2.0, I will be happy to refund your money.

Please send me an email with the request and i'll make sure it
happens.

I'm sorry we couldn't help you.

Regards,
Caleb

Hi Brett,

It technically is in Beta already and you are using it . There are things that will be slightly different with regards to UI - mostly missing Video pieces, but the audio functionality that you are using currently is Vegas Audio. Hi Caleb,
I'm a big fan of your products but my sense is that you're really
making a lot of dedicated users very very mad by this weird upgrade/
product confusion scene. I'm beginning to think that Sonic Foundry
is spreading itself too thin (everything to everyone) to appease
stockholders. I hope I'm wrong.

Regarding Vegas Video or whatever it's called. I can't use it
because it crashes consistently when trying to use one of the new
"features".

Here're the details:

Windows NT 4.0 SP 5, while trying to add non-real time effect (Sonic
Foundry Simple Delay). Consistently crashes when
render button is hit and then attempting to save new rendered effect
track (crashes on hitting Save button in Save
dialog box). Following information returned:

I would have to disagree that Vegas Pro was released as a beta
product. I have found it to be highly stable, reliable and user
friendly. Never have I experienced a software problem when using
it.

You can criticize SF of a lot of things, making and releasing poor
beta aps is not one of them (try Steinberg for that).
