Okay...

I have vv3, cda5, acid4, nr2, sf6, Sonar131(currently not on my machine), batch conv5, Nero(for data only), etc...98SE, emagic AW2 card, 512 DDRam, 1.7MHz, 2 hard drives@7200, mackie mixer, alesis7.1(and using a serial midi cable to the back of my tower), various mikes...and I'm basically just doin song demos...I may be overkill already; initially all my ideas are pencil/paper; my experience is quite limited compared to others in this forum, I'm sure...I got vv3 for it's audio macro capabilities and for some time have had a hard time finding the "right" forum...vv4..? necessary..? don't need video...any information would be great...

Another thing that's always bugged me is WDM, MME and ASIO; I have the latter 2 as far as I know with my AW2 card(PCI Audio interface from emagic, which still works well for my situation..!)...now, I 've used MME for as long as I know with all my apps, incl sonar131...so this ASIO thing..? better than MME..? does acid and VV3 "look" for ASIO..? I've got the latest from emagic on both...

Stusy, do you actually use this software?
I'm not trying to be rude, but it seems you post an awful lot regarding whether or not you should have this, that or the other.
You seem to want the latest of everything, whether you need it or not.
Please, let me know if I'm wrong here.

I think if 10 people were to answer your post, you'd probably have 6 or 7 different answers. That's only natural, not everybody works the same way. How are we to know how you work with your software.
The simplest answer I can give is; If you see something in Vegas 4's product description that you need and can't do without...buy it.
We don't know your financial status. Maybe to you, spending $200 is worth it to have one extra feature.
It seems to me you're asking us, but you should be asking yourself, no?

Take a look at the feature set and see if there is something new that you truly need, as myst said. To me the surround features are important, DVD burning is important, automation is important... make up your own mind.

With no malice to MyST, in my defence, yes, I do use all alot of SOFO products, and lately have really tried to get the latest, and I make no bones about looking at the site every day or more to check for updates and such...since I have day job(s), I don't get to the studio as much as I'd like, but my initial ideas don't involve my computer anyway...my timeline is a lot slower than someone who works in a studio or has clients and that's all he or she does is work with this stuff, that's why I like to bend y'alls ears to see if there are shortcuts, kinda cut to the quick on this stuff...I've got the manuals, they're highlited and dogged all over the place, I've been thru tutorials, yeah, but it's not like finding out what the humans or superhumans are doing or have done...now...what was the question...?

Fair 'nuff Stusy. You just proved my point that everybody works differently therefore making it hard to decide for you. Don't forget, it was only about a month ago you were asking us why you shoudn't remove VV3, now you're asking if you should buy V4.
Me, I'm only a hobbyist and I have SF6.0, VV3 and Acid Pro 3.0. Why, when I'm only a hobbyist, don't I use the entry level stuff? A few reasons actually. 1:I hate limitations, 2:SoFo offers INCREDIBLE upgrade deals, 3:since I'm not a Pro, I need all the extras in the full versions. I'll explain the last one...
A pro will be able to get better results using fewer tools than I can using the best tools. EX: Tiger Woods will beat me to a pulp at golf using $100 golf clubs even if I have a $2000 set.
So, I need the extras like Wave Hammer and such.

That's why I tell you it's hard for anyone here to guide you in your purchase decisions. We all work differently at different levels.

Good analogy...Pretty sure Mr. Woods could beat me using a basball bat- even if you gave me a cattle prod to even it up! Same with some of the premium engineers out there. Steve S
