Old AVI's Won't Load

I've just pulled some old AVI's from a backup drive and WMP and Vegas won't play them.

I'm pretty sure they were created in Vegas circa 2002. They're large files so they're probably uncompressed.

Right-click / Properties doesn't show any codec or revealing info.

Is there any way to determine what codec these are or why they won't load?

Download the free MediaInfo which will give extensive information about your files.
Your files may be encoded MJPEG especially if they were analog captures.
There are free MJPEG codecs available. Do a search.

GSpot is another good utility for seeing which codecs a file needs and if they are installed on yuor system. I agree it might be MJPEG since uncompressed doesn't use a codec and therefore will play anywhere.
