Yes I use EDL Convert Pro now, and was a bit of a tester helping them shake out the OMF bugs in it a few months ago. It does remain the very best (maybe only) means of translating OMF into several of the various editing programs' EDLs that don't bring in OMFs natively. I'm hoping that someone in the Vegas/Sony camp can come out and discuss the matter. I assume they regularly monitor this forum.
Now - as far as Avid supporting OMF - in our facility we use several Avids from Symphony to Composer and each certainly does support OMF as does ProTools (is it any wonder why ProTools has such a lock in the pro-post domain?). We are constantly swapping omf files around and in and out of post housed all over the country so no one around here is sure what you mean about Avid not supporting omf.
The opinion around here is that native OMF support is critical to professional post in an Avid environment and even if OMF is an end-of-life format, the installed Avid house base is enormous. As such, Vegas is not getting the great reception I'd like it to have here.
Avid supports it, just seems to break alot.
More to the point, OMF is going away. Rapidly in some tools, more slowly in others. AAF is the replacement.
I agree, AAF (or OMF) would be nice in Vegas, but it doesn't work entirely in the AVID or FCP line either.
Some of those tools, along with opening BWV just haven't made their way to the Vegas feature list yet.
