OMG- Project Won't Open

I've spent over two weeks working on a DVD production, now it will not open. It goes to open my saved project, but won't go past 0%. I've also tried opening the file from the backup (.bkp)- same story.

I've also tried unistalling and reinstalling VMS7P- that didn't work either.

Last bad thing that happened was I was burning the DVD to a CD when it stopped during the rendering at 64%.

I've repeatedly saved my work using different file names (10 different files), but VMS won't open any of them.

Do I have any hope of opening this project? I'm ready to start smoking again.

I bought this program because of rave reader reviews of great stability [/shakes head]

Sorry to hear about your problems. What OS are you using, and can you give some info on your computers CPU, RAM, etc? Did you get any kind of message when it stopped rendering? How long or big is the project? When the file won't load, do you get any error messages? Maybe some of these answers will help some other members help you. Cin

Does VMS open OK on it's own - i.e. a new, empty project ?

Assuming it does, but the project file won't open (or older copies), it suggests that one of the source video/sound files might be damaged.

Try moving the source video files somewhere else, then open the project - VMS will complain that files are missing. Hit 'cancel' so it doesn't go any further, and then put the files back in the original place one by one, opening the VMS project after each move back - that way you should be able to work out which file is causing the problem.

Aslo try deleting all the relevant .sfk files (the 'audio peak' files it creates).

Have you got enough disk space ?

Do you know what caused the rendering failure when buring the DVD/CD ?

My Specs:
Windows XP Home w/SP2
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5 GB RAM
320 GB 7200RPM HDD with 156 GB available

Here are my responses to some of your questions and suggestions:

I received no error messages when rendering- just stopped at 64%; it would go no further,

My project was about 24 minutes in length.

When I load the file, it attempts to load. The status sticks at 0% and does nothing else- no error messages at all.

I tried moving the video source files to a a different location, still when I load my file, it says "opening project LEA10.vf" and stays stuck at 0%.

I've tried opening all of the 10 projects I've saved. Same story for all of them.

I have no clue what caused the rendering failure, It just stopped at a certain point. I disabled many of the processes that start when I run my computer through msconfig like antivirus and other unnecessary programs and not messing with anything I wasn't sure of.

The only other option I can see for myself is to grab the video I made with a test DVD I previously burned, but that will make my final tweaking a bit difficult.

Just a couple more questions. Have you rebooted your computer? Can you make another video project (like 15 seconds worth) save it, and reopen it? Then can you render that project? Cin
