You can also use the chroma key filter. On the track 1 and 2 put your video, add the chroma filterto track 1, select the color you need for the chroma,(red in your case), add the B/W filter on the chain. Put the slider to 50% to see B/W but with a little color. For me it seems aid to adjust the chromakey.

Adjust the chroma filter since you have the effect correctly applied. Put the B/W filter to 100%. And after readjust all you need.
You must take cure the color you select is unique on the clip otherwise other zones of the clip must be masked.

It works on Vegas 2, 3 and 4, and 5, 6 , 7....... and Premiere, and Avid, and pinnacle, and final Cut, and..... :-)

Sorry to sound a little silly here but what do I need track 2 for?

ArmyVideo wrote on 9/3/2003, 5:01 PM
maverick- here's how it works... think of the tracks in this situatin as layers of accetate ..

by masking on track 1, you are eliminating all video from the track, only the mask remains, leaving a hole over whatever color or luminance you selected.

since the mask is the parent, it is sitting on top of track 2, allowing only the video that that is behind the hole to show through.

track three is b&w, and lays beneath tracks 1 and 2.. since the video that shows through the hole on track 2 is above track three, it plays over the black and white footage giving the appearance of certain sections remaining in color and the rest being in b&w. does this make sense? In other applications, Media100 in my experience, there is a filter called "color pass" that will do this without having to have three tracks. However, i'll take 3 tracks for $500 over 1 track for $15k any day! :) Especially when the $500 VV will let me see unklimited layers of video in real time.. have more than two layers in media100 and it's time to render...

Thanks for explaining it. I have a mental block with parent/child tracks, though.

And to josave I finally worked out what the second track is for. It allows the colour you want through!

So far I've go josaver's to work and I am about to try again with the original answer.

Thanks

Yes Maverick, the second track is for the color, if not you have a black rose!!!! :-)

You can also put all the effects you need, HSL, Blur, it brings some more interesting effects on the masked object. You can also change the background video and put another video and for example put a face on the rose.
