One More Issue... Problem & Resolution

After reading several posts here about how well the pyro card works I decided to pick one up. It installed and seemed to be working OK. I pulled some footage that was shot today and decided to try a direct import into VV3. Every few seconds I would get a burst of artifacts through the footage while capturing. Grrrrr... so the next step was troubleshooting. Switched PCI slots, Tried different settings and it still did it. Next step was an import into premier. Worked flawlessly. Hmmmmm... Then I remembered that the footage I shot was in 16 bit audio. Grabbed an older tape that was in 12 bit format and guess what... No issues. To rule out the tape I used the same tape I had problems with, reset the audio to 12 bit shot some video and it to worked. If a few of you folks out there want confirm this ( Set your audio to 16 bit ) and do an capture, perhaps we can get SF to look into it. FYI... Im using a PV DV400 Panasonic.

I have a cheap Actiontec firewire card that I got free (after rebate) from Circuit City a while back. I don't have any problems capturing 16-bit, 48,000Hz audio from my JVC GRDVF-31 miniDV camcorder.

I don't know if your problem is a pyro issue or a VV3 issue. Or maybe the two just don't get along. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw in my experience for a reference. Good luck.

No problem with Sony TRV730 or TRV17 using 16-bit audio with an Adaptec 1394 card (TI chipset, same as Pyro). Works perfectly either from tape or with camcorder acting as analog-digital converter in "pass-through" from older VHS/8mm videos.

BIG problems when using a Dazzle Hollywood bridge to do "pass-through" conversion - audio artifacts on captures > 10 minutes (initially sounding like echos and scratches and progressively worsening over time, eventually turning audio to total mush) and VV reporting "dropped frames" on any length capture.

I've used a Pyro for years now with 16 bit audio without these problems. Can you test this tape on another DV device?

Do you have DMA enabled?
