Woke up saturday morning, go into my office to edit some footage and boom. Neither sound forge 8 nor vegas 6c will open. Pop up says "Fatal execution error." Then followed by "Common language run time debugging service. Yes to cancel operation and no to debug." Neither option seems to do anything.I've removed and reinstalled both programs, restored system to earlier this month, checked for updates to net framework (I have both 1.1 and 2.0) . Acid Pro 5 and DVDA3 open with no problem. As far as I can tell, all other software is fine. Sony and Sound Forge opening logo freeze on the screen and I have to reboot to get them off. I've read posts in other forums that jit debugger needs to be functional. I'm getting over my head and stil thinking whatever happened cannot be this complicated. It's now sunday night and I'm losing touch with time space and reality. Anyone suffer thru a similar experience? 8 month old Windows XP Athlon 512 ram 2 internal 160 gb drive and two external 160 gb drives.

Try running a registry cleaner such as hijack this. There are websites that will allow you to download the file it creates to their site and it will analyze it and tell you what it thinks you should get rid of that could be causing a problem. There are also sites that allow you to post your log and your question and you can wait for an answer from someone who will go through your log and tell you what they would remove. Take caution though as this could severely cripple your system if you remove the wrong file(s), especially if windows needs them to start up. I would do a search and find what Vegas actually puts in the registry and try removing those files as they could be corrupt (I don't have much to go on here) and then try reinstalling. It could also be that another program that you recently installed confilcts with Vegas and you would need to remove that program (has happened to me and I had to go one by one disabling drivers to find the culprit). Anyways, there are a few options.
One more, you could also try booting in safe-mode and see if you can get Vegas up and running. If you can, this is most likely pointing to a startup process that is interfering with Vegas.

Thank you for the quick response; no luck in safemode. Error pop ups disappear but vegas just locks up on the opening screen. Ran hijack this and created log file but nothing obvious jumps out. I googled the error messages and there just doesn't seem to be much out there on this. I did delete some HP preloaded software that was just taking up space last week. but had never been used. I can think of nothing I have downloaded or installed within the last month. This one has got me good.I should also note that I have an old version of screenblast 3.0 kept on an external drive that will still function.

If you are running Media Manger, you might go into Administrative Tools/ Computer Management/Services and Applications, then set these to disable:

MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR
SQLAgent$SONY_MEDIAMGR

If these are set on Manual or Disabled, then these are not the issue.

If you set them to manual, and it works, the you have a problem with SQL installation.

Edited: changed "manual" above to "disable".
Also, if Vegas does start up, go to "Options/Preferences" and make sure "Enable Media Manager" is unchecked.

If eveything runs fine, then it is a Media Manage problem.

Have you tried "System Restore" to an earlier time when it worked? What did you do between when you first had the problem and when it was OK? Are you running a system maintenance program like System Mechanic?

I’m curious, are you launching Vegas from a project file or launching Vegas with a new/blank project?
Perhaps a new project launch would get you into Vegas.

Do you have any USB, video or audio devices plugged in (or not plugged it) that vegas might be having a problem with or without?

Thank you. Settings were at" manual" for both; I reset them to "disable" without change.
Once the Orange Vegas6 placard pops onto the screen and I get the error message, I cannot remove it without rebooting and Vegas does not show up on my task bar. I have run system restore several times which leads me to believe that it isn't anything I have deleted.

I try to launch vegas from the desktop and that is when there error message appears.
Clicking onto a video file and using "Open as" now does nothing.

Can you reinstall Vegas and use the 'repair' option.?
Can you open a 'veg' project file, or project 'bak' file? If so, try to turn off Splash screen option under Preferences and see what happens. John.

Also read thru these pages, They may give you a clue. They are way past me, but you or someone else may understand the messages, and help you. Good Luck. John.
