Only working on one track of many

Greetings team,

Is there a way to increase precision cut/edits to only one track and avoid global cuts, or is there a better method? I have multiple tracks and I am near the finish edits so I have lots of tracks, and I need to follow up and address the speech to text duplicated media generator (the file name exports of speech to text on the timeline extension is what differs) that are stacked on top of each other (probably another topic) among other things like missing segments of speech to text. I afraid when I navigate and ready to cut/edits on that last track, the speech to text track, I am also cutting other things unnecessary. My question, am I able to work in only one track or two and mute the others from selection and edits? I don't I dont want to even see others if I can. I know you can group tracks which helps with layout and accidental track selections. I know you can lock certain tracks, but can you multi select and group lockout to only have that one or two tracks I want to work on only? Is there a better method?

I tried light searches on youtube and reddit but no luck.

Thanks in advance!

Do you mean by pressing "S" to split you want to control which tracks are split? Here's how "S" works:

  1. Nothing selected - will split all events under the cursor
  2. One or more events under the cursor selected - only that/those event(s) will be split
  3. Everything selected - will split all events under the cursor
  4. One or more events selected but not under the cursor - nothing will be split

So if you want only one event under the cursor split, make sure it is the only event selected.

humm, I guess I just realized the more than one track being S/split is main video and main audio which are linked, and they are just grouped. I was just getting concerned as the complexity of my work is increasing, I would impact other tracks, which is not the case unless they are grouped. Okay, false alarm and thanks. The only leftover, if there was a way to just isolate one or two tracks so that is all I see on timeline to work on. I know I can minimize the track heights, group them, move them, but no option to make invisible while I work on a specific phase of the editing.

Learning and realizing something new every mile.

thanks

If you just playing the timeline, then want to make split on the playhead position while none of event clip is selected, you may want to try right click on the event clip to make selection. On the pop-up menu, you can select SPLIT command directly, or click somewhere out of timeline area, then do S split.
