Opacity Settings under Event/Pan Crop VP9

FixitMad0 wrote on 3/19/2015, 2:52 PM
Hello,

I'm not sure if I am asking this properly but I was wondering where I can change opacity for position points I have created.

Link to graphic: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5whkzeu235u22as/134054-002561.png?dl=0

I do not see Opacity listed under the tabs on the left. Position, Rotation, Keyframe interplation, Source, Workspace

At each Position I have I need to change the opacity but I'm at a loss as to how to perform this.

Any help would be appreciated or if I'm in the wrong area.

Thanks.

Opacity isn't part of Pan/Crop.

Try adding a "compositing" envelope to the video track. This will let you set keyframes to adjust opacity.

Hi Chienworks,

Thanks for your help. I guess my next question is, will I have to repeat my points I already made under the Event/Pan Crop or is there a way to import that into the compositing envelope?

I should have mentioned I was trying to following a tutorial for creating those older VH-1 Pop Up Video style and a lot of the parts require changing the Opacity from 25 % to 100 % as well as using the X Stretch and Y Stretch.

Thanks again!

I guess my next question is, will I have to repeat my points I already made under the Event/Pan Crop or is there a way to import that into the compositing envelope?I think a script could align both sets of keyframe points to be at the same position, but I don't know any way to do it within Vegas itself, using something like a Copy/Paste Attributes procedure.

I'll take a quick look and see if I have something lying around that could be quickly made to work ...

Thank you Kelly and John for your help.

Well, doing this is tougher than I thought because the composite envelope is a track property, and pan crop is an event property. Therefore, as soon as you move an event, all "sync" is lost between the event pan/crop keyframes and any keyframes on the opacity (composite) envelope.

It still is probably doable, but I'm not sure it would be very useful.

Hi John,

I appreciate you looking into this. I may just have to perform this manually. I wonder if SONY will consider adding Opacity to the Event Pan/Crop tool eventually so this could be accomplished on one screen instead of using an envelope.

Thanks again.

How about...

1. Apply the "Layer Dimensionality" fx to your event
2. Use the "Foreground Opacity" setting
3. Click the "Animate" icon (the little clock)
4. Edit keyframes as needed

You should be able use the "sync cursor" option to get the keyframes synced up fairly easily and the keyframes will stay in place when moving the event around...

Hi jdw,

Thank you for those steps. I have never used layer dimensionality so that will be something new to learn. So much is in Vegas!

Thanks again I will give this a try.

Does Vegas Pro 9 have this Layer Dimensionality? I could not find it listed under the Video FX tab.

Oops. Sorry, I didn't notice VP9 in the topic. I'm using VP12, but I'm pretty sure it's not available in VP9.

Ok I figured. I was looking online as well.

I have VP12 but need to finish building my Win 7 system so I'm still on VP9 32bit.

I'll need to hurry up with my upgrade so I can use these features.

Thanks again.
