Delete the .bak portion and change the name to something useful (myproject.veg.bak to myproject-new.veg) and open it.

Er? Copy it and rename it with a "VEG" suffix? No?

MyVeg.veg.bak > MyVegCOPY.veg

Try it!

Thanks for the replies guys. The extension is already .veg, but the properties say its a .bak file. The icon is also different to a veg file.
I have tried opening the .bak with Vegas and as the extension is already.veg, changing it makes no difference : (

Derm, Windows is hiding the "real" extension. You need to go into Windows and turn that off. BAK files are typically something like myfile.veg.bak so you're seeing the .veg but Windows is hiding the .bak.

Hi Jet,
How do I do that? It'll save me a ton of work if I can retrieve this.

Double-click "My Computer".
Tools - Folder Options -View.
Click "Show Hidden Files & Folders".

Grazie, it's too bad we Canucks can't beat you Brits at the real Olympics.
Current count is Brtiain with 40 medals and Canada with 17 :-(

Mike, Jetdv, everybody, huge thanks : )
4 hours of work rescued
It doesn't bother me so much now that we have no Olympic medals. I feel like I've just won a prize : )

Click "Show Hidden Files & Folders".

That's probably among the first five "helpful" switches I turn off with a new Windows install.

I also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

Mike, I must thank you. You saved a whole day worth of work for me and I thought it was hopeless. 16 years in the future, your advice helped a lonely kid make something great.
