OpenDML avi problem

I have been unable to discover why and OpenDML DV .avi rendered by Vegas 3.0c will show the correct length only in Tsunami MPEG and Vegas, all other apps including Windows Media Player keep the file time at 4:42 or 4:52 even though it's much longer. I haven't seen anything like this happening to anyone else

To elaborate:

1) I capture analog footage through a Dazzle DV-Bridge into Vegas.

2) Captured segments are edited on the timeline.

3) The timeline is rendered as OpenDML 2 .avi interleaved. For a 43 minute file this take 5 minutes or so for an interlaced or 1.25 hours for a progressive render. I have used Vegas' DV codec and MainConcept DV 2.04.

4) The resulting file will only play up to 4:42 (this is the most common time) in Media Player and all DVD creation packages that I have but Vegas has no difficulty rereading the file. I have tried Premiere 6.5 and only the video plays full length, the audio stops after 4:42 on the timeline. Incidentally Premiere's DV files play well with all software except Tsunami MPEG Encoder. Even MainConcept's standalone encoder won't show the correct length of Vegas' files but likes Premiere's.

My purpose is to render SVCD MPEG2 files faster than 2.5 hours with Vegas. The MainConcept stand alone encoder is nearly real-time but it won't work with a file fresh from Vegas and Premiere 6.5 takes about 2 hours just to render an interlaced OpenDML avi and Vegas can do it under 6 minutes.

I currently use WindowsXP Professional SP1 on a P4 2.4 533FSB ASUS P4T-533C 1GB 1066 RDRAM.

I am completely aggravated and would appreciate any insights...

I recall a similar issue a while back. The short answer is in Options => Preferences... => General, make sure that "Strictly conform to AVI2 specification" is not checked (unchecked is the default).

For a more extensive explanation, read:

Hope this helps!

If you get a scrambled, mosaic-like picture when you import the AVI into the MC stand-alone encoder, there are two things you can try:

1. Rename the [MainConcept] iAVI.dll to iAVI.org (this works if you have version 1.1)
2. Download version 1.2 of the encoder!

Version 1.2 overcomes the earlier failure to invoke DirectShow when faced with a Vegas AVI. It also has some impressive internal enhancements involving working colour spaces, resulting in extremely fast, high quality encodes. They're certainly as good, if not better, than any I've seen from any encoder, including ones costing 20 times the price.

Thanks alot!!! I feel so stupid... I searched the forums for this problem but I stopped in May with no results. I cleared the 'strictly conform...' option and resaved the file and it works!

Thanks again...
