Vegas Pro 9 will be able to open Vegas Studio 9 .vf files. We don't know when it will be available. Those who know don't talk, and those who talk don't know.

Will VMS do as Save As AAF?
If so it might be a way to shift your project.

VMS can't save in anything other than .vf. So it looks like right now I'm stuck with it until such time as Sony decides to release an update for Pro.

P.S. I know it's useless to mention it, by this is why I hate proprietary formats.

Do what others have done when faced with a similar situation.
Open your project in VMS 9.
Satart a new project in Vegas Pro 8 and copy/paste all the files from VMS 9 to Pro 8.
Save it and start working on it.

What a great line! ;-)

Thanks, lol!

I've done time on both sides of the fence. I'll say though that the vast majority of it has been on the "don't know" side, hence why i do so much talking. ;)

Hi folks --

I faced the same question (VMS 9 -> Pro 8) . I selected all in the VMS 9 timeline, then pasted into a new timeline in Pro 8. It was a simple 3 or 4 click solution.

Question: Was it too simple? Did I lose anything? Can I still set all the Pro 8 properties as if I had done this from scratch?

Many thanks!

Was it too simple?

Apparently it is.

Did I lose anything?

As I recall, some FX can't/won't copy over doing a copy/paste but it should be fairly quick to re-do them.

Can I still set all the Pro 8 properties as if I had done this from scratch?

Set your Pro 8 properties up before you do the copy/paste and all should be right with the world :-)

There seem to be some issues with the copy-paste strategy. I work with processed image batches, and if you just do a c/p into a new project, they don't translate well - only the first frame of each batch seems to be brought over. If I import the media in advance and set up their properties, however, the c/p seems to work fine.
