Opening Mpeg and AVI problems

Hey, I'm having problems opening "Some" MPEG and AVI files. Let's say I theorectically was downloading some Video files from the WEB, which just happen to be broken up scenes from the movie Tomb Raider..uhhhmm..this is theorectical now...and let's say I wanted to stick all these scenes together and edit them back together in Vegas. Well for some reason when I'm "theorectically" doing this, Vegas can not open these files. Some files are in MPEG and some files are in AVI. What makes these files different from the other Mpeg and Avi files that I have on my PC? The weird thing is that I can open them in Windows Media Player v7.01 and play them back with no problems. I keep getting the error in Vegas "none of the files dropped on vegas could be opened"

If you are unable to open an MPEG file please contact customer service to make sure the plug-in is properly registered 1-800-577-6642. If the avi file you (theoretically) downloaded uses the divx codec Vegas may not open it. If it uses a different codec please email technical support for further assistance.

Sounds like a codec problem (like, we don't support the codec or it is not installed). Can you identify the codec by looking at the file properties in Media Player? Do these files play back in Media Player?

I'll take it for granted that you have registered your MPEG plug-in...

That was it guys 2 problems. The Avi's are using the Divx encoding and I didn't have my MPEG plugin registered, got the MPEG plug registered and now that works. Media Player wouldn't play the .AVI, but would play the Mpegs....so does Vegas now.
So now I can theorectically edit Tomb Raider together.

Thank you!!!
