Are these programs compatible with each other? they r bundled together..right? ...I just find i easier to work with files in sf...editing and effects are easier to add.

are you trying to open a .veg file in Sound Forge? Sound Forge can't do that. It can open a .wav file that you mix/render is Vegas though.
Sorry not too many details in your post.

so I need to mix down all tracks to one track and then render as? a wave file? in order to open the final product in sf 6.0? Is this correct? Thanks for your help.

This is one way.

If you want to edit specific tracks in Forge, then you can render the track out and edit in Forge.

You can also edit an event directly in Forge. Right click on the event in Vegas you want to edit, and select open (or open Copy) in Forge. You can then edit the file. The open copy permits you to make a "take" in Vegas - i.e. not destructively change the original in Vegas, but adding the changes to a new copy of the file in Vegas and adding to the event as a take.

Lots of possibilities, depending on what you want to accomplish.
