Oppo USB Video File Format

Hello -- I am working with the Oppo BDP-83 player USB port, trying to save short high definition files from Vegas Pro 9d. The video was captured with a pair of Canon HV cameras, a 20 and a 40, in HDV non progressive mode. I am using the MKV wrapper and h.264 or FFMPEG (Handbrake) output.

My idea was to generate something equal to a Blu-Ray disc but without a BD burner. So far the files that have played using the SAN Cruz 8GB flash drive into the USB port on the Oppo have ranged from not very good to stunningly bad, even psychedelic in quality.

The Oppo just came back from the factory, replaced due to "hard dust" in its laser controller after a brief 7 months of ownership. The firmware is current (presumably includes the fix for this).

I'd love to hear a success with the USB feature and what the Vegas and Handbrake or equivalent settings were.

Thanks,
Chip
[05/06/10 Update: Oppo Support had this to say in response to my USB file format question:]

"If you are using the 50-0323 or the 50-0424 Firmware instances related to severe pixelation when playing back MKV media files should have been resolved. This decoding error was due to p-frame weighting not being supported.

Any additional errors is due to your handbrake being set to more than 4 Reference Frames. The player was designed for 4 or less Reference Frames and will produce heavily pixelation if the Reference Frames exceeds this limitation."
