Option for the new ripple?

Generally, the new ripple is a whole lot more useful to work with, and makes much more sense. However, the downside for me is that when you drag a crossfade, the event is rippled - this is frustrating and means I'm continually having to turn ripple on and off.

An example is doing a quick radio edit of a 7 minute track...going through deleting a section here, a chorus there, etc. Previously, with ripple on, you could delete a section, it'd bunch up, then you'd adjust the edit and finally crossfade with the previous section for a seamless edit. Crossfading in VV3 would not engage the ripple. Now, with V4, I drag over a crossfade and eekkk (this threw me the first time), the event moves and mucks up your edit. The only way to prevent this is to switch off ripple before you do the crossfade. When you're doing a lot of of edits in a short space of time, continually switching on and off ripple becomes of a drag.

If you've followed my rambling (!), my question is whether it'd be possible to have an option whether or not to ripple crossfades, just like now you can choose whether to just ripple one track or all tracks. Obviously there are a lot of instances where you <want> the xfade to ripple, but for me at least, there's also a lot of times when I don't want it to! Perhaps for 4.0a...?

What'd y'all reckon?

Ben -
Just don't turn auto ripple on. You can still perform the same ripple after the fact by using the F key or Ctrl-F and Ctrl-Shift-F. This is very handle and I believe accomplishes what you are asking for. The line with the arrow at the top of the timeline shows what the ripple action will be. So, you can perform non-ripple actions and when you want to ripple, just hit F (or ctrl-f or ctrl shift F for various ripple options)

does that work for you?

Good call Charles! I'll try that at work tomorrow, and let you know.

Thanks
