This gets asked for about every week. So far Sony isn't listening. Here is a link to another thread that describe some tools you can use to get around this deficiency:
Edward's right, Vegas can't access this information. However, there's a workaround that may or may not meet your needs. If you have a DV device attached to preview on an external monitor (or if you're printing to DV tape), you can get camera date/time information by turning on the "display" or "time/date data" function on your camera or deck.
There are some limitations to this:
1. This only works on events that originated on DV, were captured by firewire, and have absolutely no FX, filters or transitions on them.
2. This display obviously will not be transferred to any rendered files.
3. Depending on your deck or camcorder, you may or may not be able to record this information out the analog ports (for dubbing to VHS to create window-burn review tapes, for example). Some decks have a setting to indicate whether or not you want to send this info out to analog, others do it automatically, and still others don't do it at all.
Try DVdate.
I've been playing with it for a little while now and it seems like it'll do what you want.
Best of all, it's free :-)
Just be patient when you load a file as it takes a few moments to analyze.
There's a few other utilities on the site that look interesting as well.
I've tried about 10 times to download this "DVdate" and it will only give me about 226 kbps and then stop. Maybe it's because I'm on dial up. But I tried with both FoxFire and Windows Explorer. Same thing on either. Not always 226, but that was average. I almost got half of it once. 1/4 was average.
The date utility requires Direct Show s/w? Does this clash with anything Vegas?
Grazie, I've got it running on my home machine (both Vegas 5 & 6 installed) and haven't noticed any issues. Mind you, this is my home computer so it's got a load of other stuff on it as well so maybe it's not a good test machine :-)
I'm using the ImageGrab at the moment - its amazingly eeficient on collecting JPGs of quality. There are many options to improve working with it. I so,metimes need to just "give" a client a style setter of the work I've captured. This will make this so much easier.
The DATE s/w I'll put on another pc which does have a lot of s/w. I'll give it a go too.
Paul Gagla is somebody to look out for I guess. He's produced some "Grazie-Proof" software . .
Thank you for the offer, Mike (rs170a). I had gone back to the site and sort of teased the download out of there. It seemed to be a timed connection. (although I didn't actually time it.) So I would download, then delete and go back and download and it seemed to sort of jump up to where it left off. So after about 6 or 7 tries, I finally got the whole thing. (just looked at the recycle bin. I have 9 bad ones to delete. Not counting the 10 or so I deleted the 1st time I went to the site.) But I got it and I will give it a try. Thanks for the link and offer.
