I've been waiting for about 4 months for rebates on hardware I bought at Best Buy -- cumutively aboout $120 is owed to me on rebates from purchasing a UPS, a DVD-R/RW drive, and cable modem -- none of the rebates have returned.
This is more par for the course than the opposite -- no lunch is free, and no 160gb drive is $70 after rebates. Pass it up.
As far as rebates, I've done over fifty of them in the past five years and have collected every single one.
However, there is another problem with this particular one. To get to the $70, you have to apply for two separate $30 rebates, both of which require that you send the original UPC. Since you can't do this, the real price is $100, since you can only apply for one rebate.
Not necessarily so..I've had this happen before and I sent a copy of the UPC to one of the rebate address indicating that the original was sent to another rebate offer address (which I specify clearly),, I have always received both rebates.
Correct. When there are multiple rebates each "requiring" the original UPC, you can send in a copy with an explanatory note as mentioned. I've had this work every time. If you call the seller, this is what they will advise you to do.
Also note, this deal makes use of a coupon mentioned in the dealNews link to get the price down.
As for BestBuy, I regret to say that I haven't had muct success with getting rebates from them either. But they are the only store I've found to be problematic. OfficeDepot, Tiger, Staples, Amazon, everything else I've tried has been "no problems". BestBuy ... I would only buy so long as getting the rebate didn't matter.
As for 160G not being worth $70 - 50 cents per Gig (or less) is the best price I've seen. If anyone has seen better, I would like to hear about it.
Staples is the only one I've had problems with (I eventually collected after I read them the riot act). I've since heard lots of complaints about them, much as I'm hearing here about Best Buy.
The ideal place for rebates is Costco. They give you a separate receipt at the time of purchase and that's all you need. You can even go home, go online to the Costco site, and do the whole thing right then and there. Don't even have to pay for postage. Highly recommended.
