Again, Craftech, thanks for watching out for specials! I'll going to pass this on to some "mad scientists" I know that have become video addicts recording everything from the lab to recording themselves blogging! ;-)

I have a stupid question, I am an AGGIE, give me a break. What is the difference between the My Book World, Essential and who knows what other versions they have.

Mostly I think it's the ports. The 1TB units we bought come with USB 2, Firewire and eSATA. The last option I'm not entirely happy with but that could be me.

OK, so the drives are probably the same drives but the access port options may vary which is what I thought but wanted to make sure. I just ordered a new Q9450 and I will have external eSata. So maybe it will be good to get the units will multiple port types for moving between different computers. OK, AGGIE getting a bit smarter. Thanks.

Tell ya what...
when it comes to backup I'm essentially:
terrified
lazy
cheap

I've tried most methods but what I've recently settled on is the self-contained HD's with an Ethernet port.

A. Terrified - well I set up an automatic backup from about 5 different computers and they all automatically upload revisions and new additions (I sure hope this all works when I need it)
b. Lazy - like most of my best intentions, backing up gets lost after the first few days of dilligence (sorta like a diet, I guess)
c. Cheap - too cheap to leave a computer with a USB drive running all the time, and it ain't of any use if it's on the "wrong" computer. So having just the drive on 24/7 makes it continually available (even on the internet if you like) and how much could one measly drive actually cost.
Caveats - by today's comparisons, it's slower than ketchup in a cold bottle, but for incremental backups w/o supervision - well, it's invisible.
