This is a random post... is there some special 3D program airing that you expected to see free 3D Glasses offered in stores? I have a lot of red/blue glasses I've saved over the years from various promotions. Have not heard of anything lately though.
Yes, there will be a commercial for the Dreamworks movie, "Monsters vs Aliens" during the Super Bowl and an episode of "Chuck" the next night on NBC in the U.S. using the new Intel InTru 3D technology. It requires special glasses. Apparently, all future Dreamworks movies will be produced using InTru 3D.
If you saw the Brandon Frazier "Journey to the Center of the Earth" in a theater, you saw Tru3D. I was blown away by the quality (over the older R-B glasses). I saved my glasses when we left the theater - most just threw them away.
It's amazing the number of people who keep inviting me to their superbowl parties year after year after year, even though i've always politely refused and have never attended even one of them. One person commented after my refusal, "well, i never give up hope that someday you'll come around."
Anyway ... when i picked up the DVD of the new "Journey to the Center of the Earth" it contained 4 pairs of the glasses inside the case. Not exactly free, but for the price i paid it was a bargain. It even included a glow in the dark yoyo!
Since we are talking 3D for our home sets, I assume this discussion is about the cardboard version of glasses. However, my Samsung HDTV supports what apparently is some form of 3D programs that requires a set of glasses plugged in or attached to the set and supports control of the glasses for a particular type of 3D viewing. I have not investigated or tried. Anyone here done it?
As for Super Bowl commercials I agree that is why I watch and if something will be 3D I would like to see it. Where is INFO on that?
