OT: 7+GB on commercial DVDs - How?

I was reading some of the discussion on testing different brand DVDs with Nero's program and was going to test a commercial DVD just to see how well it does.

I noticed that the total space on the DVD was just over 7 gb. I then checked it in DVD decrypter and it said the same thing.

How do they get that much on a DVD?

Most commercial DVDs are double layer.

yeah they can go all the way up to 9.4

What goes up to 9.4?

DVD-R SL= 4.38GB ("DVD-5")
DVD-R DL= 7.95GB ("DVD-9")
