Be warned up front, if you like Rush Limbaugh, you won't like this site. However if you think Rush is a XXX and a XXX and XXX you may wet your pants laughing.
I wonder if they used his real voice or an imitator.
The way the words go up or down are always exactly as they should be for the song. It seems unlikely that they could find the right words with the right inflection for that entire song.
But, I'm just guessing. It would be cool to know for sure.
Something else that's funny. Try tuning into WLS-AM one of the so-called super AM radio stations. Its mostly right wing propaganda. Its the local station for Limbaugh other right wingers. Anyhow the funny part...
At 3:PM weekdays they have the very funny Roe Conn ( a Republican) and Gary Myers (a Democrat) show. A couple of over the hill 70's type disk jockeys, (Gary is banned at the movent due to contract disputes) they mostly do a smart-ass talk format that isn't meant to be serious.
There lead-in which follows Limbaugh's show is a classic. If you're not wise to these two pranksters you'd swear its Limbaugh going ape and bitching because he ran out of time, and has to give others a chance.
The reason the nearly minute long spoof is so good is they very carefully snipped Limbaugh's voice and well you got to hear it to appreciate it. A riot. It is one of those live Internet broadcast stations. Catch it live on the Internet between 2:57-3:03 PM Central Standard time weekdays.
Blumrich claims fair use on his web site and I am curious if this is true.
While he can parody, can he use someone elses work to effect that parody? Someone, presumably not him, took the photos of Bush. Say he got them without permission off the CNN website or whatever. The voice, assuming it is Rush's was also captured and used.
I'm so sick of copywrite bullshit, that why I started this thread so we could escape it for awhile. I guess not. ;-)
I remember about 14 years ago when I just started to get into HTML there were a lot of people jumping up and down all excited that someone "stole" their markup.
You can worry yourself silly over fair use and the whole tangled web that you get so hamstrung you won't do anything. In spite of what some pompous well known poster to this forum thinks, the whole copywrite mess is totally out of control and needs to be fixed. Its insane.
Well, I wasn't coming from that perspective... I just really wanted to know if this sort of thing is OK or not. I do hear you about all of the CR discussion. It always gets this board going. I was hoping it is buried enough and I could get a real answer. Not trying to piss anyone off.
BillyBoy, I too am getting tired hearing about copyright issues too. I am a republican and Bush supporter, I do like the humor:) Who ever is doing these online funnies, I don't think is making money off of them, so there may not be no harm. Please post the Kerry ones when you find them. :)
Doesn't matter if they're making money or not. It's a political commentary, satire, or parody, which is permitted under Fair Use. Blumrich is incredibly talented, some of the stuff he creates and collects is exceptionally poignant as well.
I'm glad you checked in DSE because I know you you know about this topic..
From what I gather, wherever you get can your footage or audio it is OK. AND it can be used provided it is used in the context of political commentary, satire, or parody.
That is what I wanted to know, thank you for the answer.
Production value, copyright, satire, opinions aside ... I personally don't like to see political stances taken on this board. I can appreciate the desire for something to " lighten things up " , but the fact that you had a disclaimer in your original post would seem to indicate you knew this wouldn't have the same effect for all. If your only intention was to give people a chuckle, I'm certain you could have found something a little less political and biased and that you thought everyone would appreciate.
I like ya BillyBoy, can't tell ya how much I've learned from you both in here and on your site. Because of this I hate to sould like I'm slamming ya. I just don't come here for politics, there's enough of that on the news and every other commercial. I would just appreciate not having it when I come here. No offense man, this topic just don't seem to belong on this board.
Here's the point. I mark them OT. Nobody forces anybody to read any thread and surely if you click on a link its YOUR choice.
We need to laugh at ourselves more. I noticed Bush is a pretty good stand up comic himself. He's got pretty decent timing. Maybe he made a bad career choice.
I try to be balanced politically, but It seems there are a lot of Bush ones out there but few Kerry ones. Scroll up, there's one I found that has a Clinton talking doll. Guess what it is says. :-)
Now for none politically funny. But ROUGH LANGUAGE
Check out this one. Click on the "F" word link. Yea that word. Remove all spillables from desk before proceeding. Also the Smiley and Burger King one. The rest I haven't looked at so who knows.
It is amazing how much time and talent go into these things. My kids are constantly bringing me over to the computer to look at some parody or humorous video. Like this one, they are a little (OK, a lot) over the top, but funny nonetheless.
Limbaugh himself might actually enjoy this one. Quite a few of the parodies I've heard when I sometimes listen to his show are in the same vein. Obviously the ones he uses can't go quite as far as this, especially in this post-Janet Jackson era.
As for WLS, I grew up listening to that station, and I collect "airchecks" of the old 1960's shows with Larry Lujack, Dick Biondi, Art Roberts, Dex Card, and more. When I return to Chicago, it is always strange to tune to 890 and hear talk radio.
Frankly, I thought this was in very poor taste, but thanks for the reminder that there are no tasteful sides. Seems that werever people are involved there will be jokes at the expense of others, lies, and huge egos. If the guy who made this was hoping to discredit Rush he failed. All he succeeded in doing was lowering himself to the same place as this looks exactly like one of Rush's pieces. Too bad they couldn't have spent their time putting together something that espoused unity rather than just another brand of hate.
Political satire and people like Rush Limbaugh have been around for a long time. For a brief review of the two progenitors of modern political satire (the 18th century "Tatler" and "Spectator"), read this article:
The difference between then and now can be found in the stated goal of Addison and Steele, the publishers of these two periodicals.
Their goal was to “enliven Morality with Wit, and to temper Wit with Morality.”
Morality and wit as part of satire? Not any more. There is precious little wit or morality in most modern political satire, especially that done by either Limbaugh or his detractors.
For those looking for something considerably more uplifting, but every bit as biting, I would recommend the collected works of various political cartoonists, such as Herblock.
One other interesting quote comes from the above-referenced article. Apparently Limbaugh's "dittoheads" and his well-known bombastic ego that attracts them is not a modern aberration. Here's a quote from Addison (the "Spectator" publisher) from the early 1700's describing his burgeoning readership:
“It is with much Satisfaction that I hear this great City inquiring Day by Day after these my Papers, and receiving my Morning Lectures with a becoming Seriousness and Attention. My Publisher tells me, that there are already Three thousand of them distributed every Day: So that if I allow Twenty Readers to every Paper… I may reckon about Threescore thousand Disciples in London and Westminster, who I hope will take care to distinguish themselves from the thoughtless Herd of their ignorant and unattentive Brethren.”
Wow, I can actually hear Limbaugh speaking those words. And his audience being exhorted to "take care to distinguish themselves from the thoughtless Herd"?
Thanks for that link, BillyBoy.
I just forwarded it to my wife... last night, after I watched "The Sopranos" and "Deadwood" on HBO, she commented that the 9pm-11pm Sunday timeslot on HBO, in its dialog, is "The F*** time."
I think she'll like this cartoon.
The spelling in the "text" frames of the cartoon is pretty bad, which is kind of ironic or something, given that its putative topic has to do with using English properly... but it's very funny nonetheless.
" I mark them OT. Nobody forces anybody to read any thread and surely if you click on a link its YOUR choice."
By this logic it would be completely appropriate for me to make a thread called " OT: Bestiality Pics " and have links to people having relations with goats. Hey, if ya click on it that's YOUR choice. I think that's a pretty weak excuse to turn a forum about video editing software into a political pulpit "OT" or not. But hey, whatever, what should my opinion matter ?
Funny, I could list all the OT threads, only mine gets questioned. Take for example the goofy I'm the 10,000th poster or the 15,000th. Those are sure useful. I'll aspire to be that clever next time.
So you're into bestiality? Wow! ;-)
As long as we're being blunt, and I always am, my guess is a few up tight Republicans don't like their heros Bush and Limbaugh getting blasted, even if in fun. But 600 dead American servicemen in a war based on lies is apparently funny, if the president jokes about it.
