I use an Acer TM8200 Dual Core, which is a bit more expensive (around $2K). I use it to produce my weekly video podcast (www.neo-fight.tv). We'll be reviewing it on the May 29th show, if you're interested...

Thanks Ben. My concern is spending the money then finding out vegas wont see my dvd drive, or some other problem. It's not the fastest machine, but i've run vegas on slower. My main use will most likely be for capture on location. Either thru Vegas or DV rack. JM
I think you can have dual core on newer models for about the same price.
You may also look for Toshiba.
Btw.: some Acer have an "old style" mat lcd that i would definitly prefer for any graphic task over highly reflexive "brigthview" displays that are the standard today. Am i the only one?
You're not the only one. Acer has been panned for having a display that's not as bright as some of the high-gloss sony's and others, but I actually prefer the matte-finish slightly-dimmer screen on the Acer for Vegas and graphics work. I find it far less fatiguing to look at a display with no reflections... Just my 2cents, however. Not sure how gamers would like it...
