In the next step to "film replacement", Panasonic has released a new camera.

2/3" chips are the same size as super 16mm film.

$26,000 bucks - it's a serious camera, but I'm still waiting for a "full-sized chip" before I buy anything.

Why are you waiting for a 'full sized chip'.
By my understanding going to a "35mm" imager buys you little to nothing or even possibly less shallow DOF, really depends on the lens.

Vic, this cam was announced at NAB 06' and shoots DVCProHD..

I don't believe 3CCD cameras will work with film lenses... the prism block (implied in the design) changes the distance between the lens and the sensor/imager.
