I know a graphic artist who is from Japan, but they're not a forum member.
If you don't find someone, let me know and I'll hook you up.
(She's a real sweety; she and her husbond came to my house one night, saw that I had a collection of DVDs straight from Japan ((MIYAZAKI!)). I told her that they were great, but it was hard for me to navigate them, since I didn't know the language. I just navigated blind and hoped to get the English translation. While I was showing her husbond what Vegas can do ((he was a FCP guy)), she surprised me by tooking it upon herself to tranaslate the vast menus for me. We came back and she handed me this sheet of paper with the translation. I was amazed!)

I need them to be a Vegas editor, so they can translate some media for me, and lay the correct characters into a .veg file for localization. But I'll keep your offer in mind. Would be ever so much easier to have some one take a veg in english from me, and translate with correct characters in Japanese.

I know some bi-lingual Japanese speakers at work. If they can translate, and I change the character set on my keyboard, would that work for you? But I won't be back there until Thursday.
Let me know here, or johnDOTmcfaddenATcomcastDOTnet. John

Yeah, I emailed them already, one bounced, one has had no reply. Maybe I'll try that again. Shouldn't be this hard to find a Japanese/English speaking person that can help w/this.
I really appreciate you guys chiming in. I'm gonna try J_Mac's option if I don't hear from anyone soon. I've got about 3 weeks to localize this media into FIGS and Japanese. FIGS is easy, but I don't even have a Japanese character set yet.

Too bad you don't have any sources for a Japanese company....like maybe Sony.
busterkeaton wrote on 1/17/2005, 10:47 PM
I bet you know this, but I will post it anyway.

Sony Pictures Digital is an America company, a subsidiary of the Japanese electronics giant. Also the Media Software division of that subsidiary are in Madison, Wisconsin and probably have even less experience dealing with the headquarters in Japan. I don't know where XPRI gets developed.

That's the irony.

A huge Japanese company and all of Spot's contacts except finding someone who speaks Japanese and knows Vegas.

Spot,
I'll look around here. Pretty sure, between Rob and I, we can locate someone.

Now see....Randy wasn't even on my radar....Duh!

Sony Media Software is a division of Sony Pictures Digital, which is based out of Culver City, and distributed by Sony Professional Broadcast, which is based out of Park Ridge, NJ. You can bet that few Japanese folks work in the Culver City, Madison, or Park Ridge facilities. There is a guy who I'm *hopeful* can help me who is flying in for the Sundance festival, but I don't like counting on one resource.
Randy, I'll bet you're my best option. You definitely are so far. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll post and e-mail as soon as I make contact with Rob...who I'm sure is sawing logs at the moment ;-).

Spot,
Rob and I are striking out at finding a Vegas video editor who speaks and writes Japanese. We have lots of folks who can translate (one works for me) but none who are Vegas trained editors. I'll be glad to give it a shot if you think it's worth a try. Won't cost you a cent. However, fair warning...you may be getting what you pay for ;-). Seriously, I'll be glad to try. In fact, Rob and I are doing the HVUG Thursday night and we can work on it together. The person who works for me is a part time translator for military VIP's and briefings so hopefully, she will be able to communicate the ideas. Standing by.
Randy
P.S. Will e-mail same also.
