I am trying to hurry up and make a DVD menu for a project I have completed all video for.

For some reason, I follow the Help File as well as on-line tutorial steps to make a gradient and apparently, absolutely nothing happens. Select gradient tool, left click, drag, release, and nothing is there.

Is there a minor setting I might be forgetting?

I never use gradients in Photoshop, so I am pretty lost on this.
