Trying to get 8.1 to load. Problem is WIndows Installer. Probably not a Vegas
installation issue - just my system.
If you are running Vista 64 and 8.1 can you export your registry for the following keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer]
"Type"=dword:00000120
"Start"=dword:00000003
"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001
"ImagePath"=C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe /V
"DisplayName"="Windows Installer"
"WOW64"=dword:00000001
"ObjectName"="LocalSystem"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer\Enum]
"0"="Root\\LEGACY_MSISERVER\\0000"
"Count"=dword:00000001
"NextInstance"=dword:00000001

I'm not sure if my keys are correct. Does your registry include the Enum keys?
Thanks in advance !! .

Her's mine, but I wouldn't go around willy-nilly just changing these settings.

Thanks for responding. I am learning more and more about Vista 64. Such fun.
I certainly will not jump into the registry and make changes willy nilly.
I may make a fresh install of Vista 64 on a blank drive to see what comes up
regards Windows Installer defaults. Meanwhile a few more examples might help.
I'm trying to find out what "Type"=dword:0000010 could mean vs"Type"=dword:00000120 .. means something.
Obviously something is missing or wrong on my system.
