There are two types of professional mini-jacks. (oh crap, I said that word again)
Hiroshi/Hirose
MiniXLR

There are a few variants of the mini XLR, due to phantom power, transmitters or connectors, but those two are the main ones.

The B3 is a VERY good mic, especially for swimming pools, sweaty stages, etc. It's not a very flattering mic for musical applications, but for dialog, it's very, very good. We currently use these in a touring Broadway show we consult to, and the just simply hold up, even in the hands of Equity actors. (they're usually pretty tough on gear)

Do they make a B3 that fits on the UWP-C1 ( as far as I can tell, I can't seem to find anyone making a UWP-C1 with the hirose connector besides the UK guys (or is it just an adapter that plugs into the locking 3.5"mini?) - I get so confused sometimes (it's like all the words and connectors just start flying around in front of my eyes and in my head and then it all settles down again. Sorry for the nagging on the subject ( to me 1K is a good chunk of money, so I'm kinda trying to feel secure in my purchases).

A Hirose/Hiroshi (depends on which side of the water you're on) can be fitted to ANY lav. By the same token a plug to go into the UWP-C1 can also be put on any lav.
Dave, you can virtually put any lav on virtually any transmitter you want.

well, then I guess it's just a matter of getting a UWP-C1 with a B3 lav and then adapting them to one another and then getting another B3 for an I-river and trying not to spend more than a grand.

could take some work.

You could likely get an adapter for the B3 allowing the B3 for the wireless to be used for the iRiver. Power is the bigger issue, because the iRiver can't supply phantom.

I am going to try and have to find a small power supplier to the iriver (maybe that imedence thing that they mentioned on the other thead. I'll look into that more.

Anyway Monday I'll have to start making some purcahses.

Just how bad are these $20 Azden mics that work with the iriver?

I'm only using it for backup mind you - I'm not sure if it's going to be able to do the trick. I know guys use em. but I'm not sure that I want to use REALLY bad mics for backup but they don't require a power supply.

BAD!!!
They are terrible, IMO. You'd do better with an ATR 55 from AT, but it's not much better. If you're looking for cheap...even some of the Sony consumer mics made for concert taping are better. If you want inexpensive, check out out the ATR 25. Lowcost, but pretty decent. (self powered condenser)

I kinda figured they were pretty lousy, I'm not necessarily opposed to spending money, I'm just looking for a self powered (lav) omni mic. Is the 25 better than the 55?

DSE/Spot (I see you just couldn't get away from it, even when you changed your name) I certainly do appreciate all the help you've given me (and may continue to give me - as the needs arise). If there's anything that I could ever do for you, just let me know.
