OT-Best sort of image stabilizer.

I wish to get a new camcorder before I go on my next overseas trip. I have heard that when it comes to image stabilizers that optical ones are always best. Since I don't know how the optical ones are supposed to work I have no idea as to which is better. Any ideas on this score?

The other must for any new camera is true 16 x 9 capability.

Iv'e had optical and electronic. Optical is the best and it corrects in the lens without any focus changes.

Sounds to me like you're looking at the FX1 but that's a fair hunk of a camera to lug around on a holiday.
Still the pain will soon be forgotten but the images will live forever.

If you want native 16:9, you're limited in choices. The Z1 would be (and is) my choice...but the FX1 is a great cam too. The XL2 is another option, but the FX1 is HDV or DV, and for me, I'll always want to acquire in higher resolution and then knock it down if necessary...HDV/HD is the future, might as well get a jump on it if you're gonna be buying now.

FWIW, we'll have a buncha new HDV clips up in various rates/formats in the next day or so. Just gotta finish building the new page. We had to buy additional storage for all this HDV we're putting up there to play with. :-)
