OT: better/new Forum script?

malew wrote on 8/11/2010, 6:16 AM
A little off topic - maybe would be good to change Forum's script? Current version is a little ehmm... how to say... not modern? Of course I don't think about full color animated avatars and fireworks, but basic things. F.e. possibility to attaching screenshots, logs, linking video, "Send message if someone reply for you topic" function etc.
Why SCS forum is not based on any free - like phpBB or commercial - like vBulletin board's script?
I like this board and team, but new, modern forum script is this what I'm waiting for. And would be good for building better Vegas community.
Is it possible?

"possibility to attaching screenshots, logs, linking video, "Send message if someone reply for you topic" function etc."Much of this is available, you just need to know how: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=521496&Replies=0

That said, it would be nice if these functions would be easier, i.e. typing in a URL would automagically create an anchor tag.

malew,

There is a javascript you can run to make some of the things you request easier. It would be nice if SCS would integrate this into the forum.

OK, I can works with bbcodes, set it manually, but I don't understand, why it is not implemented in standard. Security? Maybe. IMHO SCSis not little home bussiness but big, famous company. 2012, 3D TV, journey to the Mars - I don't believe is impossible to Sony to makes safe, modern and comfortable disscussion board.
But if I'm only one who want better board - I will be using bbcodes etc.

Thank you for answers!

I wonder the same thing.

This forum provides a great service to the various product communities and to Sony Customer Service Staff. I believe it also helps the Sony Marketing & Sales departments promote their products.

So, why won't they (Sony CS) improve the forum software?

I personally don't think it needs much, if any, improvement. I like the look of this forum, it's clean and the posts are very easy to read without a lot of extraneous clutter. I am on numerous other forums and this one is my favorite because of the people, content and forum software. I suppose posting links and images could be a bit easier, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

What's really missing is an easy way to enter smileys.

Me too. But I wish for one enhancement - I would like to be able to click on my name where it is currently shown as static text in the upper right corner of the screen to bring up a list of my threads, similar to what you get when you click on your name hyperlink in the list of threads.

Like John C, I'm old school and prefer cold look and speed and simplicity. I can read this forum from any old machine and it's fast. Unlike some other forums that are inundated w/ c*r*a*p, sidebar videos and banners which take for-friggin'-ever to load on an older machine or slow internet connection...

Btw, That Java script link is an excellent tool! Been using it for years! (;
