OT: BG image stuck on Desktop

jrazz wrote on 1/5/2006, 12:07 PM
I have searched google with all I could think of. I have a computer with a UT background on it. I went to change it and nothing I do will change it. Windows will allow me to select and apply new wallpaper, but after I hit okay, nothing changes. When I go to shut down or start up, the new background I selected shows up. When I start up, the new one shows for a while then by the end of the start up process, the old one is back up. This is kind of making me not like UT anymore :) Any suggestions? There is no spyware that could be found. I downloaded it straight from UT's site. I can't even replace it with another UT background.

Have you tried deleting the UT file from your computer?

I did, atleast the one that windows should be referencing:
C:\Documents and Settings\"your name w/o quotes"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\ I don't know where else it would be or where else it should be referenced from. Any other ideas, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Maybe

c:\windows\web\wallpaper

Nope. not there either. Does RAM hold that image even after restarting? This is getting to be really frustrating as there is no logical way that this background should still be up. I don't know of where else it would be referenced from.

It should not be kept in Ram. Is there a chance that it is downloading it from the WEB each time you boot?

Otherwise, I would do a search on your computer for anything with the UT in it and see if by chance there is another copy being used.

Where can I find this wallpaper? I will see what it does here.

The above link is where it can be found. The 12-2005 football calendar is the one that is stuck.

It shouldn't be downloading from the web. Thanks for your help; I am just at ends as this is making absolutely no sense as to why it is there. Something is definitely loading it, but what is doing it I don't know. And like I said, if I click on another wallpaper from a file or on the web, the old one still is displayed.

I am probably not helping much, but do a search on your computer for this filename.

Sorry, it was actually this one, not the other calendar football one for 2005 (I did not realize that there was 2).

I did a search for it and nothing came up... at all.

This might be some spyware because if you narrow down the link, you end up on a commercial sports sight.

copy and paste this and see where you go.

FOUND IT!!!

I scrolled my mouse cursor up to the top. It was an active desktop setting so a bar came down with an x on it, I clicked it and it went away!
