OT: Big audio improvement w/NewBlue crisper plugin

Hi, I just bought the newblue audio fx plugins yesterday, just started playing around with them, and I'm completely blown away by the terrific "crisper" plugin ... (check it out!)... I dropped the audio gain to about 8dB ... and combined it with Ultimate S3's male voiceover settings, plus a bit of reverb, and it's a huge huge improvement in the audio voiceover quality ..

I'm still a bit new at all this, so I don't know how to do much beyond EQ rolloffs at high/lowbands, plus reverb etc, I don't know how to do track compression/sweetening/audio mixing, but these plugins at least make it very easy to achieve a *big* dramatic improvement in clarity and tone quality with a mouseclick..

I need to go study Spot and Jeffrey Fishers' dvds again to learn the subtleties of all this... thanks so much, newblue and vasst... you guys make it easy for a rookie like me to make pro-sounding audio ... thanks!

Ken, just as an aside, you can save the NewBlue in Ultimate S with the Male VoiceOver preset, as a new preset in US3 if you want.
The Crisper is a great audio tool, no doubt.
IMO, for the bang for buck, you just can't beat the NewBlue audio tools. Maybe if someone made some freebies...

Hi Douglas, hey thanks for the heads-up on that, will do... that'll save workflow time, that tip - thanks for sharing it.

It's really amazing the stuff we can do w/Vegas/US3/newblue together, compared to 6+ years ago - back when my idea of editing was hitting the pause button on vhs recorders to splice together tracks on the fly, to create vhs tapes for sale... :p

I have to say what I really love about the New Blue plug-ins is that they are so dang simple to use, I can't think of a simpler audio plugin to use, just spectacular.

There I was ready to click "add to cart" for the New Blue audio plugins when I read where I would need at least Vegas 6 to use 'em and I'm still running V5. I would upgrade, but I've read so many horror stories about the Sony Media Manager wrecking systems, and I don't need HD for now.

Oh well...

Jim,

I use 6 and have uninstalled the Media Manager. You can avoid the problems with it if you want, but some people swear that it is a wonderful thing.

Vegas arrived at V7, I didn't have any problems with Media Manager in this version and there are lots of other tunings and features from V5 to V7 except of better HD support. Upgrading isn't the worst idea imho ... ;-)

Thanks for the link to the VST-wrapper.

I'm not quite sure how to go about using it though. Do I install the wrapper first, then the plug-in or the other way around? I also noticed that this version is the limited version that only processes / allows access to one VST plugin. Does that mean that I can only use one of the audio features in the New Blue production bundle (it has 11 effects)? Or does it treat the plug-in as a single plug-in with multiple "features"? And do I need to do anything special within Vegas to access the plug-in (e.g. does the installer configure V5 for me)?

A quick follow-up. I went ahead and downloaded the components and installed them. I now have Vegas 5 up and running and using the New Blue plug-ins. Pretty straight forward process.

I am also a big fan of the Virtos audio plugs as far as a quick and easy to use tool as well.

right Jim about mm, I've never used it, the good thing about V6/7 is that you can choose to Not install media manager during the install (check it out, eg download/try the demo V7) ... and it'll prompt you on first launch about "mm not found", then just uncheck the "load mm on setup" option and preferences and voila! Vegas 7 with no media manager.. which is how I love my vegas, no troublesome mm problems...

during the initial vegas install, after it installs vegas by itself, and then after, midway thru the install, it'll say something like "vegas will now install media manager" and gives you a dialogue box, at which time you should simply click cancel, which'll leave you with vegas, and no media manager, works great.

(as an alternate to media manager, I *love* this inexpensive program, at http://www.filesee.com .. try the shareware demo, I use it to audition all my audio/video royalty free clips to figure out which one to use in each project, it's a simple, fast, wonderful little a/v program; heck even my non-tech wife likes it)..
