its funny, July last year i acquired a Sony 6.2 surround sound theatre setup which i actually use for the final masters of my commercial DVDs. Now in this manual, from THAT long ago, it mentions BlueRay. It also gives me codes which i can use on THIS remote to control teh BLueRay disc player....

Sony obviously have their eye on the ball with this one and reading through some of teh forum arguments, it doesnt seem that these people can see the benefits of BD.

Either way, its a waiting game until these manufacturers sort out their technologies and their 3rd parties sort out what theyre distributing...

The death of UMD is hardly surprising. If Sony had done this right it could have been a success, but given that you can load a movie into the memory stick why bother with the UMD.

I haven't really seen any significant marketing at all of the UMD format.

Between that and not even mentioning that PSP is a large widescreen player and the iPod is a small 4:3 player, they really missed several billion dollars in lifetime revenue.

And even if they hired a competent marketing VP tomorrow morning at 8am, the widescreen boat will have left the dock by the time they get word out, as Apple's widescreen iPod will likely be out shortly.

Talk about hiding your light under a bushel.

Btw, did you know that Final Cut Pro has "RT Extreme with New Dynamic RT that adjusts image quality and frame rate on the fly for optimal playback and scales performance as CPU power increases."?

Oooh, imagine if Vegas had this feature! That would really be something...

In a light hearted conversion with a senior individual from Sony Japen about 8 months ago, I made a reference to UMD needing to be more open, thinking about music videos and TV, and this individual agreed but said "unofficially" sony's music deal(3 years ago) with Itunes and "another disp.." stopped that market push. That they were very unhappy with Apple's new deals with other companies,(don't know exact meaning of this statement).

Sounds like Motorola's deal with Apple that restricted Motorola to 100 songs per iPod phone, so nobody bought it.

Motorola lost a fortune, while Apple got some free advertising.

Gotta be careful when negotiating with Steve Jobs.

I almost bought the Phillips 26" HDTV at a local store this weekend for my editing office. Very nice picture! DVI input as well as component (no HDMI), though the manual said the DVI was not compatible with PC DVI (I don't know why not).

$399-$25 discount= $375. Thing was just too darn big for my office right now.
