Go to "edit account" and select the "non-threaded" view

Thank you so much!

When you are in the whole thread mode you'll notice that you can no longer see the text of the post you are replying to while you are composing your reply. You'll have to resort to opening the reply page in a new window or shuffling back and forth with your browser's back and forward functions.

PLeASE PlEASE pLEASE PLEASe PLEAsE PLEaSE???

Ah! (after edit account) Much better. Why isn't this on the page with the message count, verbiage other than "edit account" (edit preferences would work) and why isn't this view the DEFAULT???

ACH-hAAA! Because the flat view isn't in the thread order. So you can't follow conversations. More reason to have a toggle on every page.

AND WHY DOES IT SAY EDIT MESSAGE on the button below when it should say "DONE" or something?

Just some questions I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the tip on whole-page view. Now I won't need that carpal tunnel surgery.

This is indeed a nice but well-hidden option. It really belongs on each page as an option. I think that programmer at da cow has spoiled us all. I also really like the email notification when a response is posted. Not as good as email or usenet, but useful.

So why *don't* more companies have usenet forums?

Control Z,
"...that programmer at da cow..." has not spoilt me. That forum is practically useless because of what seems like non-standard Javascript commands that show up as errors in a decent standard-compliant browser like Opera. And they don't reply to mail about it either. Silly cows.

the Cow forum works fine for me under Opera 6 and 7. I can read and post with no problems.

Have you tried to post?

I just posted yesterday. what errors are you seeing?
TorS wrote on 3/3/2003, 12:01 PM
Composing a post, every key i press provokes an error message that I have to remove before I can press the next key and - yes you got it. It gets tedious even before I've written "hello". I've forgotten what the message was, something to do with typing error or illegal command on the page.

you might try the newsgroup opera.tech for a clue as to what's going on. I haven't seen that happen personally.
TorS wrote on 3/3/2003, 1:25 PM
I appreciate your concern, and perhaps I will look at opera.tech. But I've mailed several persons at COW about this and even if they think I'm blundering they should have replied. That upsets me as much as the error messages.
