OT: Boris Red 4.2

I Received this email today:

" Thank you for buying Boris Graffiti through Digital Juice! How would you like to add over 120 additional video filters to your arsenal? How about motion tracking, comprehensive paint capabilities, film effects, and standalone rendering?
You can have all of these features, and much more. And we have an incredible deal for you! You can get RED for 50% off the regular crossgrade price "

Sounds like a cool offer ( i now own Graffiti and FX ) so can any of the Red users overhere comment on this upgrade offer, how Red is working in Vegas 8 ( the 'Extended Sony Vegas 8 integration') or the standalone feature?

Thanks in advance!

Rudi

I have been using Red since version 3 and it's a terrific program.

The Red 4 integration with Vegas is not very good. Not at all. The fault seems to lie in the Vegas end of things and their plug-in scheme, or so I hear. Yeah, it shows up as a Vegas plug-in, but it is better to run Red as stand-alone, then bring the output into Vegas. Red itself is a very full-featured program. As a plug-in, you are pretty much using a full-featured program (Red) in a program (Vegas). They just don't fit well, in my opinion.

I do use Red in AfterEffects CS3 and that is a very different thing. Plug-in-ability with AE is terrific. Much better "fit."

Other plugins such as Spicemaster, NewBlue stuff, etc. works great as a plug-in in Vegas. Just not Red.

I am not sure how many dollars this comes out to, but Red is a terrific program. Does a ton of stuff. Very full-featured. Highly reccomended. Just not good as a Vegas plug-in. I am sure the above offer is substantially less than I paid for Red 3 some years ago. :(

Thanks - with this offer it comes for a little under $400, not sure if taxes are included and while i'm in europe customtax could be added if it's not a download. The good thing is that the dollar is low at this point of time ( €250,- )

Will try to download the trial this weekend and see if i can find the Red feeling !
