OT: Cam Batteries on Ebay

Anyone have experience buying 'generic' batteries on Ebay?

Looking to pick up a new BP-945 for my XL1s -
BP-945 brand name model = like $140
Found several 'replacements for bp-945'/generic batteries on Ebay with same specs.. but for like $30-40??

Can this be right? Don't want to save money on a battery that ends up frying my $3k camera.

thanks

I of course have a panasonic DVC 80.. Nice camera by the way.. I bought 2 batteries from "eagle international"... They are top notch and im excited about the price I paid.... Seem to be high quality to me.. work great.. hope that helps... They wrapped and packaged them very carefully too.. Im happy and plan to buy more from them..

I've purchased generic batteries on eBay from a number of different sources for my Nokia phone, my Sony TRV-11 camcorder, my old SVHS camcorder, etc. The prices are pretty tough to beat, often only about 1/3 what I'd pay at retail for the branded battery.

The generic "InfoLithium" that I used on my Sony never had quite the guts of the original Sony battery. It only lasted an hour or so, whereas the original Sony lasted about 1.5 hours. The next time, I purchased a Sony, and it works identically to the original. None of the generics seems to be quite as strong as their branded counterparts. However, they seem to last just about as long (in terms of number of recharges) before they fail.
