OT: Canon DSLR video goes RAW!!

Philip Bloom was first with this scoop:

Canon RAW video mode

He has lots of photos of the new stuff as usual, including Canon's new campaign poster:

There is a slight snag with the recording time, but that should be fixed before the day is over (Canon was in a hurry to get this out).

The new firmware also fixes another problem:

...they have fixed the rolling shutter issue by adding a new feature which the Japanese boffins in Tokyo have dubbed “beer goggles” which senses when the image is skewed and fixes it in camera!

And the competition is worried:

This announcement just days before the start of NAB in Vegas is surely going to upset a lot of people. Red’s notoriously tight lipped Jim Jannard has released the following official statement regarding this news…”Sh#t!”

If you have a Canon DSLR, be sure to download the new firmware using the link at the bottom of the page.

Even if you don't have a Canon, the firmware page has interesting information.

I'd be happy with just full raster out the HDMI port.

Uh, this is an April Fool's joke!

The firmware link takes you to a Celine Deon forum of some sort.

Expect many more today.

Just when SanDisc announces their first 10 terabyte CF cards to go with it you tell me it's a hoax?

I knew that the bad shoping on the image was an immediate give away.
On the other hand my post wasn't.

Thanks for keeping the hope up!

:O)

I liked that Philip was a bit self-deprecating also:

I have just downloaded the firmware and installed it on the 12 Canon bodies that I have, tomorrow I will release an edit together of some trees, leaves, flowers, water and ducks shot in RAW edited to some Vivaldi.

Totally believable for those who have seen his previous work...
