OT: CD layout of a live performance

I am trying to figure out the best way to place CD regions for a CD of a live recording. The general format of the show was music, talk, music, talk etc.

There seems to be 3 options:
1) Put the music and talking into separate tracks.
2) Put track markers around the music which places the talking between tracks.
3) Place and end track and start track marker together at the beginning of the musical section.

What happens when you hit the next track button doesn’t seem well defined for case 2.

Windows media player and Winamp seem to ignore the end marker and keep counting up seconds till the beginning marker. The track number increments at the beginning marker. This works pretty well because you can hit the next track button and get to the beginning of the next musical section.

Conversely my Pioneer player and a Toshiba DVD/CD player, increments the track number at the end marker with the counter either zero or counting down till the begin marker. The next track button gets funky. If you are in a music section the next track button goes to the next music track – that’s good. If you are between tracks in the talking section the next track button skips the music in the current track, because the track number has already been incremented, and goes to the music section on next track – that may be not so good (and confusing).

What’s the best way?

Thanks for listening.

Larry
